Top Tips for Anti-Ageing and Skin Care
It is a hell of a job to keep looking young for both men and women. Because of the way the woman’s body works, they tend to show the signs of skin ageing far earlier than a man. Look around and you will see what I mean. I have seen lots of older couples where the man looks far younger than the woman and I know that they are very close in age.
However, men can also start to age earlier than they want to. And some men want to look 40 when they are in their 60s too! Skin care is just as important for them as it is for women.
If you don’t want to go down the surgery route, there are lots of things to do to help your skin - and it takes time. If you have loads of money, you can go to a salon and have regular treatments (use the search to find the nearest one to you) or you can treat yourself at home. There are hundreds of products and treatments on the market and just as many suggestions to choose from. Mychoicebeauty’s aim is to list all of them. If we miss any, just let us know. We welcome your comments if you have tried anything in the quest for eternal youth.
Even if you do have surgery, there is still a routine of skin care as well as looking after yourself or else you will have to have it done again sooner rather than later.
We really can’t stop the onslaught of ageing. I am going through it myself and look in the mirror every day and find yet another wrinkle and my face sags a little bit more. Believe me, I am trying hard and will continue to research and try out as much as I can. The surgeon’s knife may beckon me but until then, I am going to carry on down the non-surgical route and have fun doing it. We can all help each other by sharing experiences. Scouring through, I have come up with a good list of top tips for anti-ageing and skin care. Although not necessarily in any order, the first three are really important.
1. Use a Sunscreen. A lot of skin ageing is due to sun damage. Foundation on its own just does not work. Use at least SPF15 or better still, use a total sun block. More.....
2. Drink lots of water. The body needs lots and lots of water. Experts always say drink at least 2 litres a day. Without water, nothing works.
3. Stop Smoking. Don’t need to say anything else. Why else do you end up with those horrible lines around the lips? I can guarantee you that if you compare the faces of any two older women, at the same age, the one who smokes looks older. The same can also be said about men. Products....
4. Regular Exfoliation. From my own experience, I know that this does have an effect. When I have the money, I have micro-dermabrasion sessions done in a salon, followed by a non-surgical facelift, and am always satisfied with the results. However, there are now more ‘at-home’ kits and these can be quite good too. More ...
5. Eating the right foods. There are a lot of different suggestions around for the right anti-ageing diet. All we can do is feature lots of them and let you discover the right one for you. We do know though that eating lots of fresh fruit, certain nuts and salmon does help. More..... Books.....
6. Daily Facial Massage. The firmer the better. Massage helps to stimulate circulation, which helps nourish the skin from within, boosting lymphatic drainage. More.....
7. Facial Exercises. The jury is still out on this one as there are definitely those for and against. More.....
8. Choosing the Right Cream. Well, this one is just a minefield. It all depends on your skin tone, how much money you have and whether you like it on your skin. All we can do is feature the products, let you and the experts have their say and then leave it up to you. Feedback will certainly help. More
9. Keep your teeth as white as you can. Yellow teeth certainly make someone look older. Again, money is the key here. You can have them whitened at a dentist or specialist (use search to find the nearest one) or buy an at-home kit. More
10. Fillers and Botox®. If you can afford it, fillers and Botox do have their advantages. Of course, some people just can’t face needles but before you embark on it, do your research and check out the practitioners that carry out this procedure. Use the search to find the practitioner nearest to you. More
11. Be happy and love yourself. I know this sounds twee, but if you don’t feel good inside, how can you feel and look good on the outside? Making time for yourself, whether it is in a salon or at home, will make you feel gorgeous. Go walking, take up yoga, read. The list of ‘me time’ is endless. Oh, and laugh a lot. Frowning uses more facial muscles so encourages more wrinkles! More....
12. Sex. Research has shown that having sex can help you keep looking younger. But that doesn’t mean you can just go and sleep around! Safe sex is definitely the healthiest. More
13. Sleep. Women need more sleep than men. Sleep deprivation is lethal in ageing terms. When we sleep, our cells regenerate and we also remove toxins and activate system immune cells. More
14. Exercise. There is no doubt that being a slob will not help keep you young - in both facial looks and body physique. Just go out for a walk, combine exercise with a healthy diet and you will notice the difference in a short time. Take up yoga or salsa dancing; jog, skip – anything other than sitting in front of the TV. More
Whatever your age, it is always wise to remember that ageing is natural and intervention can sometimes make a face and body look really odd.
Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder, so being happy and nice, really goes a long way to fooling the eye as to your inner beauty.
